He chuckled a bit, hearing Fellixe's stomach growl. He was enjoying his light mood while he could; he never knew if he was going to go into a bad mood while he was with this wolf. If he did, then he'd really look odd... He shook the thought away.
"I've been able to catch some small things, miraculously," he answered, thinking back. He knew those animals had to be either stupid or blind and deaf to not have sensed him. He completely failed at stalking or preying. It might have just been beginner's luck, he knew. He hoped the luck would last.
He thought of going back outside, and he wondered if he'd even survive the first step outside. He could hear the water pounding against the ground outside, and he silently gulped. For him, it'd be like the first day he was blind. He'd be clumsily stumbling around with no idea where he was going... Yet again, he always went around like that. One more time wouldn't make a difference..
"Are you sure you want to go alone?" He didn't know if he wanted to go for sure, but he didn't know if sleeping was something he'd be able to do, either. He'd most likely attack if someone came in while he was sleeping. "I don't think I'd be of much use with all this rain, but company's always nice, ne?"

I'll miss the winter... A world of fragile things. Fellixe noticed the carefree attitude that Kenryoku possessed at the moment, although she could see that he was trying his hardest to keep it that way. Of course she realized that he must have been catching and eating things since he had gotten away; she knew that he'd escaped recently, but not that recently, or he would be a little nerodic still, much like the dogs that are first dropped off. Besides that, he wasn't extremely emaciated, yet anyway... she knew that once she caught him some food that she would have to try and teach him herself, for she was too soft-hearted to just leave the poor creature to just wander around a strange land, blind and nearly helpless to the wild. She started to wonder how hard it might be to catch a running animal when you couldn't see it. When hunting, se relied a lot on her senses, such as ears, eyes, and touch. She would look everywhere, singling out something that she wanted; she would feel the vibrations in the earth as she stood extremely still; and she would listen intently for everything around her. It was then that she realized that, for the most part, Kenryoku could learn and possibly make it a success. He couldn't see; but if he listened closely for the animal and made sure that it was safe, if he could feel the ground beneath him and sum up the pinpointed area it was standing, then he could do it, and she was sure of it. She took in his words and noticed his unwillingness to go out into the downpour. She sighed and then said, "Ah, dear one, you don't have to go out into the rain. I can get us something very quick, if you want to wait on me, unless you want to go extremely bad." she glanced out into the crashing drops of water dripping madly for as far as she could see. She couldn't imagine why anyone would ever want to go out into it. wordcount: 339

At this point, he knew he was making a big deal out of nothing. He was distracting her from the task at hand. "Yosh. You go and catch yourself something. I'll wait here for a bit. You know, to catch up on my thinking." He didn't want to be a burden, since he did fail at anything that had to do with a lot of movement. He lied down, licking at his left paw immediately. The bandage was covering the wrong part of his paw now; he could feel it. He tugged gently at the bandages, not wanting to break them.
He could hear the rain pounding outside, and he wondered how the land was facing. Such a strong storm must've softened the ground and made it more vulnerable to land slides. He felt a surge of excitement and dread at the same time at the thought of some animal getting injured during a landslide. He immediately felt guilty for wishing such a terrible fate upon someone.. He was on edge immediately, hoping he was not going to change moods.
The lightened mood was still there, and he let out a sigh of relief. He was just lucky that he hadn't been speaking. He looked toward where he thought Fellixe was, nearly looking the right way, and stood himself up again with semi-widened eyes.
"I almost forgot," he said gruffly, looking very guilty. He bowed his head in respect: a custom he was too used to, to let go. "I wish you a safe journey."

I'll miss the winter... A world of fragile things. She chuckled at his old-fashioned custom of 'wishing her a safe journey.' "The river's only ten minutes away, love. I shouldn't be gone extremely long." She smiled and wished with all of her heart that he could see it. She was happy to be around him, much to her surprise. She never realized how much that she might be able to grow attached to a dog. His inability to see didn't bother her, although she wondered what he thought she looked like. Her gaze drifted away, looking to the side, slowly fading to the ground. She wondered why he still had the dirty rags covering his paw. Didn't he know that it would heal so much faster if he took them off? But she decided not to speak of it until she returned with the meal. Besides, she had an idea. "I'll be back," was all she said, and then she quickly slipped out of the shelter in one swift movement. She was running, not at full speed, but definitely not slow. She was determined to get back soon. Fish and medicinal herbs; that was what she was after. The rain pounded down on her, soaking her within the first ten seconds and whipping her around by its friend, the wind. The mud was knee-deep and she began to have difficulty in her paced run, slowing down and tiring easily with the dripping mud dangling off of her white leg fur. After five minutes of pure struggle and perseverance, she took in a familiar scent through the world of rain. Yes, this was exactly what she was looking for. Poppy seeds, which would relieve some of the pain he might be feeling, and also make him tired; perhaps even put him to sleep. although she didn't want to give it to him directly. She decided that when she caught his fish that she would smear it and stuff it into the fish's body. He wouldn't know anything. She ripped the poppy roots out of the ground and held them loosely in her mouth, where they dangled almost freely. She ran toward the river, which was only about a half-mile away, and when she finally arrived she set the roots and seeds onto the saturated grass. It was beginning to get foggy and dark out. She had to act quickly. She speared the first fish with her canines, as wet and slippery as it was. She caught the second by flipping it up into the air and hitting it over to the shore. She quickly ripped her own apart, eating it all: the scales, delicate white meat, eyes, and even the bones. She approached the poppy and ripped it into tiny shreds. Picking up the pieces by the mouthful, she stuffed them into the fish. The pieces that were too small she simply rolled the fish in. If Ken asked what it was, she would say that it flipped a lot in the dirty grass before it died. It took her half the time to get back to the shelter. She walked into the doorway and set the fish down before him, hoping that he would eat it gratefully. She was so wet and muddy that she didn't even look like a white wolf anymore. wordcount: 545 (OOC: Woot! Biggest post ever so far on this board XD)

Upon saying she was leaving, Kenryoku nodded. Now alone, he wondered on what he was going to do in the coming hours. He didn't know if the rain was going to stop within the next hours, and he didn't know if Fellixe would decide to leave. A blind mutt with bad senses was nothing but a burden, after all. He always needed a back-up plan since he was full of surprises, and they generally weren't good ones. His eye twitched just thinking about it; he decided to shake that thought away quickly.
He lifted himself up, standing up fully. He could still hear the rain pounding outside. He began to wonder what the rain looked like. It'd been a long time since he'd been able to see, and since he was almost always in his cage, he'd never seen much of the elements. And even if he had seen some rain, he had lost most of his memories of those days of blind loyalty as a pet dog. He turned toward the sound, staring straight ahead. It seems you don't appreciate the little things in life until they're gone..
He walked toward the entrance to the shelter- at least, where he guessed it was- and stopped when he felt a bit of his muzzle getting wet. He was beginning to think the rain wasn't as bad as he thought it was before; at least, he did now because he wasn't getting soaked to death by it. He licked his muzzle, calmed by the sounds of the rain pounding the earth. It sounded sloppy, as if the rain had been hitting mud instead. He hated mud generally, and he wondered how it was going for Fellixe. Mud was difficult to trod through, after all.
After another minute, he began to pace around the shelter, checking to see if his bandages had fallen back to their right places, or at least close. The grounds were too rough for his eternally injured paws; it hurt too much to step on the ground with them. He didn't feel anything, which was good for him. He sat down somewhere in the middle of the place, curling up on the ground. He was tired now from that little waste of energy, but he couldn't go to sleep. He merely closed his eyes, thinking to himself, I'll only rest my eyes a bit.
Not too long after he closed his eyes, he heard someone entering, and he raised his head, staring blankly ahead. The scent of mud was all over, dispersing around the shelter quickly. He knew the mud had gotten to be a problem outside. It would have been a nightmare if he'd decided to go. There was a new smell too, and he guessed it was the fish. It smelled different than what he remembered it as. But then again, it might have been the fact that the "fish" he ate was salmon "flavored" dog food, too...
"Thank you," he said, smiling and bowing his head a moment after. He went up to the scent of the fish, and felt around for it with his muzzle. It wasn't too long before he got it, eating from it quickly. He didn't taste anything, both because he was eating too quickly for his mind and mouth to process what he was eating, and because he just couldn't. He licked his muzzle after finishing, standing up straight. He felt a bit groggy, a few seconds after, but it wasn't too bad. "Was it that bad out there?"

I'll miss the winter... A world of fragile things. She started to feel guilty about giving him the herbs now. She eyed him closely as he ate, and afterward when he stood up. She was wondering if he would fall asleep or not. "Umm... Yeah, it was quite bad out there. Hopefully it'll clear up by tomorrow..." She licked her lips stressfully, still staring at him wide-eyed and waiting for the effects to take place. She set herself quietly on the earthy, only slightly-moist ground and began to lick the mud off of her legs. Soon where she was laying, there was a puddle of mud surrounding her. She got up and layed back down once again, a few feet away from where she previously was. The grainy texture of the mud coated her tongue, and she constantly flicked it in and out again, trying to get the disgusting substance off. She was still creating pools of water on the ground, but she quickly decided that it wasn't going to stop soon. Her thick arctic fur held a lot of water in, although it did manage to keep her toasty warm in chilling weather such as this day. Her head fell onto her paws, where she rested it there and constantly watched him. She wondered if he would be angry with her... She wondered if he would find out. Stop it! she demanded to herself. You're going to make yourself go crazy! Try and distract yourself. She lifted her head up and singled out the bandages, once again, and said, "Why do you still have those bandages on? Don't you realize that the air will heal them quicker if they aren't covered?" Her ears twitched and her eyes were glued to the dog. She wondered if it was possible to actually burn a hole in someone's skin by staring at them for so long. She watched for any sign of his fur to be singed by her incessant stare and quickly shoved this out of her mind. Silly wolf, you're being absolutely ridiculous... wordcount: 335

He was tired, and he knew it. He didn't want to fall asleep, knowing he was a danger to others. He was openly a mutt, and generally looked down upon. It was against nature that he was alive, with all the disabilities and problems he had. "Survival of the fittest" seemed to not apply to him. He didn't want others to know of his weak mind as well.
The scent of mud hung heavily in the air, and he found himself staring into space again. His eyes were narrowed, and he looked more angry than tired. His ears were twitching; he tried to keep himself moving subtly so he wouldn't fall asleep out of the blue. He could hear Fellixe shuffling around for reasons he was sure he wouldn't understand even if he did ask. He wondered if he was allergic to the fish.. if he could even be allergic to something, that is.
The silence at that moment was cutting, and he found it very unnerving. He layed down, and wandered off into his own thoughts once again. He was bored, and he generally didn't know what he was going to do. He rolled over on his back, his eyes staring blankly at the.. "ceiling," he supposed he would call it. He didn't know exactly what was sheltering him, and he didn't want to get it wrong, so he thought of it vaguely.
He felt like he was being watched, oddly to him. He felt uncomfortable, and rose a brow subconsciously. Who would want to watch him? I'm as average as average could get...
He heard Fellixe ask him about his bandages, and he actually began to think it over. Why am I wearing them..? I can walk somewhat better than before.. He didn't know the answer to that truthfully, but he felt himself answering mechanically as well as quietly, "They are healed, just scarred over... Plus, it hurts to walk without them.."

I'll miss the winter... A world of fragile things. She felt like he was slowly losing himself, and she continued to watch him, only more relaxed and subtle. She decided to ask him the question that she already knew the answer to, which was her way of deceiving to the fullest extent. She didn't particularly like the idea of deceiving her newly found friend, but she so wanted him to forget the pain. She felt a bit like she was taking control of him, taking advantage of him. She shouldn't have given him the herb... she should have asked. The guilt was swarming her mind, driving her insane, and she gulped. "Are you, uh... feeling okay, Kenryoku?" Before he even answered the question, she made the decision to tell him the truth, despite what might become of it. "Listen, um... I... put something in your fish called a 'poppy'... and it is supposed to ease pain, because I could see your discomfort. However, I also knew that it might make you drowsy to the point of sleeping... it looks like your reaction to it is a bit stronger than I thought it might be..." She shrunk back, pinning her ears down behind her head and her nose pointed toward the ground from disappointment in herself. She whined a high-pitched, yet very stingingly quiet whine, "I'm very, very sorry dear... please don't be too upset with me..." She thought this was it. He'd get angry and leave, and it would be all her fault. She would be the cause of his departure. But no! She loved having a Friend in Canaan, that was a hard thing to come by. She didn't make another sound; just waited for his reply that she was scared to hear. wordcount: 285

He guessed he was supposed to be angry. He might have been, maybe it was the 'poppy,' making his feelings all whacked out. He was a bit angry that she tried to slip him something without considering that he maybe would have said yes if she'd asked him directly. Still, he felt that it was really no reason to be completely angry with her. This would be a good way to mess with someone, though.. He'd bluff it for a bit.
After she finished speaking and whined, he narrowed his eyes sleepily, rolling over. His fangs stuck slightly out of his muzzle. "You could've asked me, you know," he said gruffly, glaring at the ground. "I would've probably said yes." His tail stood still, his fur raising on edge. He licked his muzzle, standing up once again. Being semi-tired, his legs wobbled a bit before he took a step, stomping down.
He despised lying, but this didn't seem like a bad-intentioned lie. She was trying to help him, and he appreciated it. He felt immediately felt bad, knowing he was taking advantage of a weak moment. He lowered his head, closing his eyes to make it look like he was debating in his head. His posture went back to normal, and he sat down again, clearing his throat.
"I'm messing with you," he said calmly, feeling bad for trying to embarrass her after she tried to help rid him of some of his pain. "I don't find anything wrong with you trying to help out someone who really needed help. Sure, you could've asked.. but I probably would have said no anyway."
He smiled again, his mood lightening. He'd never had anyone willingly try to help him before. He'd never trusted anyone besides himself before, but she was gaining it slowly. He bowed his head quickly, "Thank you for trying to help me. I think I'll be fine, though."

I'll miss the winter... A world of fragile things. She suddenly felt like she was one of those over-obsessed psychopaths and quickly said the two words, "I'm sorry..." She needed to get out of the shelter, only for a while though. "It's almost night..." she observed. "I'm going out. Get some rest." she bluntly left the hollow and turned to the side, the rain hitting not-so-hard at the moment. She turned to the left and saw the giant tree that was fallen, and she was suddenly bewildered. What were the odds of a huge tree out in the middle of nowhere? She slinked up to it, gazing up and cocking her head to the side. Her eyes squinted as drop of water ran in between them. The wind wisped through the ever dropping night, and she heard the ancient old tree creak, but never budge. One of the few dead, crumpled leaves broke off of a swaying branch and flew past her ear. A wild song called to her through the passed day, and she recognized it immediately. She jumped up on the wide, nearly flat surface of the trunk and raised her head to the sky. She sniffed the wind and could only catch a small scent of the wild fur that was similar to her. A hollow, empty, lonely song rang through the air in reply. It was helpless, heart-piercing, and soulful, and she dropped to the base of the trunk in agony. She didn't even know where it was rooted, she just felt hollow inside. The sky water drizzled her fur and ruffled it up, and she stayed there for maybe an hour. She was awaiting the new day. She closed her eyes and the light dissipated, replaced with sheer blackness and the sound of falling rain and wafting winds. Slowly, she drifted off into unconsciousness. wordcount: 300

The guilt was slaughtering him. No, not slaughtering. Mauling. He'd run off possibly the only wolf he'd ever talk to for the rest of his life... however long that may be. His gaze softened, falling to the ground. He kicked himself mentally, hating how fate had made him so complicated when it came to morals and emotions. His ears perked, hoping she'd come back claiming she was messing with him like he'd been. But she didn't.
He didn't know whether he wanted to go out there and find her. He was still wobbly, and his senses wouldn't get him anywhere if he went out there with all the rain and mud. He was having another internal struggle. He knew he had to go. He'd done something wrong, and it was his responsibility to apologize.. But even he had an ego, however battered it was. He was male, it was against his standards! He layed down on the ground, debating it over and over again in his head.
Now his head hurt... He put his paws over his head, a bit annoyed at how conflicted he was about everything. "Shimatta!" he cursed, beginning to pace. His senses had him wide awake now. He needed all his energy to think. Should he blindly go out there in the middle of the rain to try to look for Fellixe when he knew he'd fail badly? Even if he did, what difference would it make when he found her by some miraculous even when he had no idea what to say?
His eye twitched, imagining that scene. Shake it off Ken..
He stood up quickly, beginning to pace around. She said to get some rest, he thought to himself, staring at the ground as he paused for a minute. That would suggest she's coming back.. He looked around for a few seconds, wondering what to do. And then it came to him, Wait by the entrance, of course.. So cliché..
After all, even if he refused to accept it, he was part dog. Patience was in his blood.

I'll miss the winter... A world of fragile things. About two hours later, Fellixe awoke. The rain had finally stopped, and in its place wafted a thick sheet of fog. Her eyes strained in the lightness of it, and she closed them for another half minute or so, just to get them adjusted to the new contrast. She yawned, letting out a sigh and watching her breath turn into "smoke" as it emitted from her jaws. Standing up, she noticed that her coat was immensely damp and she shook it roughly in attempt to dry off a bit, Afterwards, she flexed her claws on the tree's bark, ripping it in places just because she could. Even though she had always been a wolf, she had always been fascinated with her claws. The pearly white tips and pink area where the quick was... she had beautifully dangerous claws, and she smiled. Not that she would "unsheathe" them on anything other than inanimate objects unless absolutely necessary; she was too soft-hearted for that kind of thing. She quickly sprang off of the tree and landed effortlessly on the ground with cat-like grace, softly pawing her way up to the entrance of the hollow. She hadn't even glanced up yet. When she finally did, there was Kenryoku. Quickly and stunningly, last night's ordeal had swarmed back into her memory. And it was all her fault. Why would she ever do such a thing? Was she even thinking last night? Was she in the right state of mind? "Ken! God, you almost scared me to death..." she tried her best to act casual and unbiased, and she wondered if it was fooling him. She smiled to lighten her own mood, and then asked him, "Did you get a good night's sleep, hon?" Oh, drat... hopefully that wouldn't hint to him about the poppies once again. She kept her plastered smile on, but it was fading with every passing moment of silence. wordcount: 318

He didn't sit still the entire time. Being nervous, he switched between sitting and standing every hour or so. He heard the rain cease, and he felt a bit better. He knew that if he wasn't forgiven and sent off, he wouldn't be walking completely blind in the rain. Sure, the mud would cause a lot of trouble, but at least he wouldn't be in the rain too..
The guilt was still brimming in him. He didn't know if it was because he was close to changing moods or not, but he still didn't feel right hurting someone for his own entertainment. He'd very well been doing what his owner did to him, and that made him feel like a monster.
He was about to switch to laying down again when he heard her speak. He'd been off guard again, thinking about his own matters. So he had interpreted her words right. She'd come back like she said she would. But he knew he had to watch his mouth and think more carefully before he spoke, or risk another problem like this.
He smirked at the thought of being scary now. He thought he'd already been scary, but he guessed that hovering where no one expected him to be would be creepy. "I apologize. I didn't know you were there," he quietly stated, keeping his blank gaze aimed at the floor.
He needed to stop zoning out, he reminded himself. He knew that he thought about things too much, and that would usually distract him from actually listening to someone. His ears perked when she asked him if he had slept well. That's right..
He'd generally forgotten that he hadn't slept at all. He felt oddly fine for someone who hadn't slept a wink and had been fed something to make him sleep. He looked a different way sheepishly, knowing that their argument from the night before was about her slipping him those seeds that were supposed to make him go to sleep..
His eye twitched slightly, remembering that fact. A little white lie couldn't hurt, could it..? Of course it could. Why would I be sleeping near the entrance?
"Actually," he started off, finding the other side of the shelter- that he couldn't see- very interesting, "I didn't sleep at all.." He knew he probably had lost some points there, being that the whole squabble the night before had been about those damned seeds..

I'll miss the winter... A world of fragile things. She was starting to become accustomed to his moments of zoning out, and the times when he didn't realize where she was... after all, it wasn't entirely his fault. She was too quiet sometimes. She never seemed to enjoy a lot of noise all of the time. Maybe that's why I haven't joined a pack yet... she wondered. When Kenryoku told her that he didn't sleep well, she still felt a little guilty. Stupid poppy seeds... she cursed, and then returned to observing Ken. Strangely, he seemed very much awake for not sleeping good. She shook her head at herself and then spoke. "Listen... about last night, that was just me on a bad night. I did something without even thinking. And I apologize. It was my fault, not yours at all. I was having a bad night last night, anyway." Her voice trilled at the end of her sentence, and then she coughed lightly to clear her throat. She looked the dog over in a risky speculative, and slowly her cheeks flushed. Her whiskers twitched at the tensed feeling, and she realized something that she hadn't realized the previous night. Why need a wolf? she secretly asked herself. Just exactly what was wrong with a dog? She wished she could slap herself across the face. How could she ever be with a dog forever? Would it be any different? She asked herself if he was just being desperate, but the answer never came to mind. She pushed it to the back of her mind. After all, it was mating season. She was sure that all of the femmes around were trying to get a mate. Although Fellixe wasn't quite so easy, she was instead rather picky. She quickly switched the controversy in her head back to real life, where her standards were wolf. "Are you hungry yet? Because if you're going to live out in the wild for the rest of your life you are definitely going to need to learn how to hunt! What's your favorite small animal to catch? Rabbit? Squirrel? Perhaps more fish? But only if you're hungry, dear. If not, we can do whatever." In the east, the warm, golden hues of the sun were beginning to sprout. Fellixe was always in a better mood when the sun rose. Not that she didn't enjoy the the night or anything... wordcount: 394

He wasn't expecting an apology. He seriously wasn't expecting one, especially when he still felt it was partly his fault. "It isn't all your fault you know," he said calmly, not wanting her to blame it all on herself. "I shouldn't have lashed at you like I did. Especially since I wasn't really mad, just trying to mess with your head. It wasn't right, so I also have to offer an apology to you."
It'd been a while since he had felt this.. light. He'd never been able to keep his other mood in check for so long before. He didn't understand what had been going on with him lately. Was it the sudden change in atmosphere? His thoughts ran to Fellixe.
Sure, it'd been a while since he had anything close to what anyone could call "kindness," but did it really make that big of a difference to how he was? The evidence supporting that piled up evenly in his mind. He clenched his fangs, wondering if what he was thinking was true. Did he like her as more than a friend? He felt a bit flustered thinking about it.
Impossible, he scoffed at himself, even though he didn't ever doubt evidence. A mutt can't.. like a wolf. Sure, his parents had gotten together on their own free will, but they were pure. He wasn't, and it was obvious to anyone with a sense of smell. He had to come back to reality before it struck him hard internally. No wolf would choose a half-breed. Especially one as messed up as me.
Just as he was closing his thoughts up, he heard Fellixe speak. He tried to forget what he was thinking about previously, since he knew he probably still look flushed. He'd pretend he was overheating if she asked.. He knew that what she was telling him about was true. He had to learn to hunt on his own to survive. He couldn't depend on luck all the time, after all. "I'm not hungry.. but I do need to learn to hunt," he said, unsure if he was ready. It would be muddy out there, but he had to take his chances for once, he guessed. "I think fish would be the simplest thing for now. The other small animals are too cautious, you know."
