Personality
Because of his past and his problems, Shin appears extremely cold and angered when it comes to expression and demeanor. His smirks and stares appear bloodthirsty, and even he can't tell if they are or aren't; his voice and expressions often vary from mockingly amused, enraged or plainly serious.
Having a sort of old-style thought process, Shin follows the "survival of the fittest" mentality. He feels that females should not have to do any type of fighting, but rather to raise the next generation and live a calm life; a male should fight to protect those he holds dear, as well as for resources. Although this appears to be a somewhat good point of his personality, he does not like the thought of cowardly wolves. If you can't fight, you deserve to be dead, he says, and he'll be more than happy to kill.
From having lived as long as he has, he has seen how one's weakness can hurt many, and will swear to kill any weakling he comes across to "better the world." In his mind he can only see those weak-willed wolves picking on the weak and the leader who oversees it all. Having that mentality, he also feels no pity to kill the ones he feels endanger others as well as those who oppose him; from this desire to protect the future rose his want of power, to rule canines because they would only start internal struggles and battles among themselves which brought the suffering of others...
But on the other point, his "illness" brings him another completely different personality. When this part of his mind is triggered, he hallucinates, seeing others as not wolves, dogs or mutts, but as creatures who endanger the bright future he hopes for; he'll fight to the death at this point to get rid of the problem.
History
Three small pups were born to Ishi and Shinjitsu, the leaders of a pack: this was a joyous time. However, a younger wolf soon overran the pack, forcing the former leading pair to become normal ranked. The pups were now a violation to the pack's regulations. Only the leading pair were allowed to breed and to enforce this rule, the three pups were to be killed in a semi-compensation; upon the sight of two of his dead whelps, Shinji could not bring himself to kill the last. The former leader sent his mate away with the last pup, wanting it to survive and took back his pack within a few weeks; he had no way to contact them by then, however. Months passed and the pup grew, gaining experience throughout his first year. Soon he was to experience his first hunt: an exciting yet scary feeling rose his chest then.
He and his mother were out on the open plains soon enough and he could spot an elk herd in the distance; he was so ready to prove his worth. They sunk in closely though not carefully enough- the bull had spotted them and came charging. Two wolves could not defeat a bull and they all knew it; the pup turn and ran but the elder stood ground. "Shinryoku.." his mother started, looking toward him with the coldest eyes he'd ever seen, "We as wolves do not run from battle, whelp! We stand and fight until the end!" It seemed to echo through the pup's mind for days on.
His mother had not come back and Shin had no one left; he did not know who his father was, but he knew the pack his parents had led before. With no mate to lead with, his father, Shinji had grown cold, seeking absolute power, but his own son stood in the way; the pup wanted to become leader. He would take the position of leader for his mother; in his mind, only he was right for it! He was not strong enough however, and he lost. From that point on he came back, trying to win the position both his parents had held before. Many other packs gathered around and fought for the resources of the land, extending the bloodshed. Thoughts raged in their minds: Power... they all thought mechanically, spilling the blood of their own kin for a land and mere rank: some dirt and a title; I need more power... their minds called. No remorse existed for the wolves; their souls had hardened so far that their gazes became cold as ice...
In these packs there was an everlasting want- no, need- for power, the feeling of being dominant over something and this need caused Shin to hold his position in high regard; no one would be allowed to challenge his decisions! Others began to suffer under this harsh rule along with the unending battles. The strong picked on the weak and the weaker stuck with the strong to torture the weak; it made him sick. Shinryoku found himself craving this power as well, but not just restricted to his own pack. He wanted it all, he wanted the power to make things fair: he wanted to rid the world of the weak and have only those who were strong. 'The weak only cause suffering for others,' he thought to himself, 'I have to end them or any chance of peace in the future will be compromised..' At this time he began his journey to get stronger, his ambition rising as he aged.
His first challenge was a bear that had been rampaging throughout the mountainous areas of the land, having gone mad from an injury it had received to the the head. The three year old did not run from this challenge; it was a perfect way to build his strength and reputation up! "Shinryoku, the bear slayer!" But before he'd even known it, he was struck hardly on the head by the bear's massive and strong paws and was sent flying backward, stopping only when he hit a tree. His head began to hurt greatly as eyes widened, his vision seeming to go red. He could see Shinji quite clearly; he could see the wolf chuckling at him, standing around a pack of weak-willed wolves who had gone with him to avoid being killed. He could see his old pack dying and suffering, he could see the pups crying for food but their mothers had none. "What happened, Shin? I thought you were going to save them." Shinji chuckled at him within the hallucination; he could not allow the future to be compromised like he'd seen. Before he knew it, his body seemed to react on its own accord; after that, his world went black.
When he had awakened, his vision was blurring and his head was still pounding; had he been hit again? As he forced himself to stand, he noticed he was surrounded by a group of canines who stared at him with great concern; why did they even care? Then he smelled it: he was covered in blood. Was it his? No... it couldn't possibly have been his. While trying to figure out what had gone on with him, he caught their scents and found himself glaring coldly at them: they were dogs, creatures that human influence had tamed, shrunken and treated as if they were below their "masters". The weak infuriated him and thinking of the ones who pick on the weak made him sick; he had to end them! His gaze hardened and it seemed to all turn red for him once again. He'd ended up exactly like the bear who he had planned to kill: rampaging without anyone to stop him.
He could sort of see the dogs' forms and petrified faces scampering around to escape him and crying for help, but all he truly saw was the deaths of many and what he felt would happen if he rid the world of the weak-willed. 'So many weak creatures running around,' Shin thought to himself darkly, 'I'll just have to kill them all to save our future.' They were no match for a large wolf; he'd ended most of them without much of an effort. All he needed was one more.
As he had cornered the last remaining dog- a yearling- a smirk crossed his muzzle: he wanted more despair out of this one. "I am unlike you weak creatures..." he started, a bloodthirsty grin still on his maw. "Because... We, as wolves... do not run from battle, whelp... We fight until the end." He closed in, wind blowing as he slowly stepped toward the pup to finish this kill... but he stopped in his tracks; this pup was female and he refused to kill females, as they were the key to the future. His eyes softened as he regained some control, walking away from the terrified pup as she cowered from him; he'd done what he had to do. Before he knew it, the dog was following him, annoying him out of his mind. Then he remembered: she had no one left, as he did. She left him after she became an adult at two years.
The years passed with his goal repeating in his mind; he could not allow the weak-willed to survive, he could not allow any more to suffer from the darkness that came when one gave into a weakness. His travels brought him to the land of Canaan, where he heard dogs were being brought in. Once he bore witness to the death within the land, he decided what he'd do from then: he'd try to eliminate the weakness from this land now too.
