Being as stubborn as he is, Hishigata refuses to take orders from anyone, especially when he isn't asked kindly. He's quick to get into a fight, no matter how much larger his opponent is. He despises being ignored by others, being an attention hog, and will do anything to get attention. He considers himself higher than others for some reason, and will certainly get in anyone's face to defend that, even if that face happens to have fangs pointing out of it.
He generally tends to be in a bad mood all of the time, grumbling about the 'bad things' that always happen to him. But when he is in his rare good mood, he can be a good person to talk to. It just depends on how he's feeling, really.
History:
Hishigata was born in Tokyo- the capital of Japan- to two Kishus that had escaped from their homes. A few days after he and his siblings were born, the "Catchers" (J-ROUD Dog Catchers) forced his parents to flee their hiding spot, and they were only able to take one pup. He was the only taken. His parents named him Reks, wanting his name to sound different from all the other Japanese and English names flying around the city. Being a bright white, his parents found it hard to hide from the Catchers and their sasumata(刺股- weapon used to catch criminals), which they hit the dogs with to keep them from running off once again.
His family lived peacefully for two months, staying out of the Catchers' view, but they were constantly on the move. During this time, the stray dogs of the city found themselves lacking food, and it wasn't too long before all the dogs found themselves growing weak and tired- the same went for Hishigata's parents.
Day by day, more dogs were getting caught. Many were killed on the spot, others were sent off to who-knows-where. The stories that the elder strays passed on to the still-feral ones were terrifying: the tales of dogs being shot because they were too weak from hunger to stand up, and others of being sent to a death-zone rose terror in the minds of the strays; his parents made sure to keep themselves out of view. But it wasn't too long before hunger drove them out.
It was the coldest winter the dogs had ever faced in their years as strays; Reks was close to turning three months old then. Food was very scarce, and there were daily fights among the remaining feral dogs to settle who would be eating those scraps. The city had been marked too dangerous for the strays to wander about in, and all the former strays of Tokyo had settled in the mountains. His parents tried their hardest to bring back food during those bitter months, but they were much too weak by then; in mid-November, they found themselves having to go back to the city once again to try and get some "easy food"..
They hadn't even been in the city for two days when Reks found himself being scooped up by a human hand and saw his parents get loaded into a van. He tried desperately to get away as his parents frantically told him to, but he was far too small and weak to.
Praised for his courage, he was taken to a building, where he met the Shinsengumi: dogs trained to kill other dogs as a "good cause". They tell him of what lies ahead for him: a training session where he would learn to kill those useless dogs in whatever way he could. Reks found himself very confused, but he'd never admit that to those vicious-looking dogs.
He learned to track dogs by scent, as well as how to herd them toward his "master". He was renamed "Hishigata", and he took to his new name quickly, even though the Shin-dogs still refer to him as Reks.
Soon after his training ended when he turned one and a half, he began his tracking of stray quickly. Feeling that it was his duty as a Shinsengumi dog, he worked very hard at his job. He spent nearly two years as a tracker, until his Shin-dog pack was called away to an unknown place. A chip was implanted in his neck, and he was flown in an unknown building with his pack.
